James Michael DeWitt, 75, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
He was born on April 9, 1949 in Chicago to the late Erwin and Dorothy (Ryan) DeWitt. On April 28, 1973 he married Mary Rhomberg at the Holy Rosary Irish Catholic Church in Chicago. She survives.
Jim was a graduate of Fenger High School in Chicago and then served in the Army. He spent his career working for Amtrak as a railroad mechanic.
He was a member of AmVets Post 91 in Monticello. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and motorcycles and liked living on the lake. He was a jokester and never knew a stranger.
Along with his wife, Mary he is survived by three children, Sara (Timothy) Podgorski of Valparaiso, James DeWitt of Monticello, Erik (Lauren) DeWitt of Portage; siblings, Barbara (George) Frederick, Jean Owen, John (Deborah) DeWitt; sister-in-law, Mary DeWitt; grandchildren, Sean (Cassidy) Curtis, Seth Curtis, Tyler Curtis, Emma Podgorski, Sadie DeWitt, Nolan DeWitt; great grandchildren, Beckham and Dawson.
He was also preceded in death by a siblings, William and Robert DeWitt; and brother-in-law, Jerry DeWitt.
Military rites will begin at 4:00 pm followed by visitation until 8:00 pm Monday, May 20, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
