James B. Gill

James B. Gill, 84, of Monticello, passed away at 6:45 pm, Friday, April 3, 2015 at White Oak Health Campus. He was born on July 14, 1930 in San Luis Obispo, California to the late John and Edwina (Childs) Gill. On June 6, 1953 he married Irene Sweeney in Glenfield, NY and she survives. Jim received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in 1958 from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Jim was an engineer for RCA in Monticello for many years. During his career with RCA he held several patents on his design inventions. After Jim retired, he did consulting work for GE where Jim helped develop the RCA picture tube Operations Plant in China and did in-service training with the staff prior to the plant opening. Following the April 3 tornado of 1974, Jim served on the Monticello Redevelopment Commission, and among the many things he was credited for was the development of the current traffic pattern for Monticello. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Neumann Council #6955 of Monticello and the Monticello Rotary Club. After retirement, Jim and Irene returned to Monticello where they built a beautiful home overlooking the river. Jim picked out plans for their new home and then redesigned them to meet his and Irene's standards. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jim loved working in the yard with Irene and tinkering around his workshop. Along with his wife, Irene he is survived by his children, Jim (Debbie) Gill of Appleton, WI, Sandy (Chuck) Kubly, of Monticello, Cindy (Bill) Isom of Monticello, Pam (Jerry) Ellender of Carlisle, OH, and Paul (Stacy) Gill of Fort Wayne; a sister, Frances Pinkham; brother, Jack Gill; and grandchildren; Jamie Gill, Adam Gill, Riley Kubly, Kelsey Kubly, Chris (Amanda) Isom, Sara Isom, Mark (Martha) Isom, Hanna (Sean) Manahan, Abby Ellender, Molly Ellender, Blake Ellender, Brenna Gill, AJ Gill, and Jack Gill; and a great-granddaughter, Miriam Isom. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Howard Gill. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am (EDT) at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Visitation will follow until noon at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:15 pm (EDT) Saturday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with full military rites. Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, or to the Knights of Columbus St. John Neumann Council #6955 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
