James A. Lods

James A. Lods, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 2:40 am, Sunday, October 25, 2015 at I U Health White Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 21, 1929 in Logansport to the late Bert R. and Mildred (Vannatta) Lods. On September 15, 1951 he married Dixie Griessbach, and she survives. He was a 1947 graduate of Monticello High School. He received his Bachelor's from Purdue University majoring in education and was ROTC. He served during Korea. Jim was a coach and a school teacher retiring after thirty-two successful years. During his career, he coached and taught at Morocco High School, followed by Monticello High School, Elwood High School, and Connersville High School from which he retired. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the John Purdue Club. He enjoyed playing cards and Tri Kappa Bridgerama, fishing, working in his yard and garden, reading, and being with his family. He was a passionate fan of Purdue sports, especially of Purdue Football. Surviving are his sons, Larry (Sharon) Lods of Monticello, and Dennis (Joan) Lods of Carmel; granddaughters, Ren (Travis) Parker of Battleground, Stacy Lods of Lafayette, and Ashley (Adam) Wright of West Lafayette; step granddaughter, Taryn (Luke) Lautzenheiser; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea Parker, Chase Parker, Kail Parker, Cooper Wright, Connor Wright, and Jackson Lautzenheiser. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army with envelopes available at the funeral home.
