Jackie Lou Tam, 67, of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Minnesota.
She was born on July 14, 1954 in Lafayette to the late Thomas V. and Betty L. (Soales) Watkins. On February 18, 1978 she married Michael Tam in Star City. He preceded her in death November 17, 2010.
She was a 1972 graduate of Twin Lakes High School and attended Rudae's School of Beauty Culture in Lafayette. Jackie's first job began at the age of fourteen at Rexall Drug store followed by the drive-in theatre. After beauty school, she worked as a beautician for a short time. Later, she worked at Chem Tron, now Ball. She worked at and managed Video Stop for fifteen years. Her last job was at the Monon Town Hall as a deputy clerk. She retired in 2017. After retirement, she enjoyed her time at home working in her yard and loved taking care of her sons dog Buddy and her dog Buster. She loved family and cherished her daughter and grandchildren. She greatly missed her son, Chad who was her "sonshine".
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and participated in monthly adoration. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She was very passionate about helping the less fortunate. She donated to many causes including, veterans, American Indians, and Catholic ministries. She had a kind heart and hated to see people suffer.
She is survived by daughter, Heidi (Scott) Marker of Wakarusa; two step children; three sisters, Pamela (Dallas) Woods of Monticello, Connie (Gary) Rice of Monon, Kimberly (Andres) Contreras of Monon; grandchildren, Noelle (fianc, Ethan Baker), Kiara, Keyton, and Kendall; special friend, Lynn Carnahan of Monticello; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Michael, she was preceded in death by a son, Chad Tam.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm EST.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Fr. Chris Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church or Monticello Funeral Honor Guard. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
