Howard P. Headdy, 78, of Monticello, died at 12:10 pm, Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He was born May 14, 1931 in Chalmers to the late Roy C. and Faye (Nance) Headdy. He married Virginia Blume on June 27, 1957, she died on June 8, 1992. His second marriage was to Rita Shaffer in April of 2002, she died in November of 2008. He was a 1949 Graduate of Chalmers High School, and attended Purdue and Indiana Universities. He was member of the Monticello Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Trustees. Mr. Headdy was in the Airforce, serving during Korea. He worked for Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, where he achieved numerous company awards. Mr. Headdy was past president of the Indiana Life Insurance Leaders Club and the Lafayette Assoc. of Life Underwriters. He was Chairman of the Board for the CDC, Comprehensive Developmental Center, for Benton, Carroll, Newton, Jasper and White Counties. He was past president of the Monticello Kiwanis Club and served two terms as a member of the White County Council. He was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268, White County VOITURE 40 & 8 and the Indy & National Studebaker Drivers Clubs. He is survived by two Daughters, Luann (Douglas) Phelps of Monticello, Linda (Jeff) Hintz of Monticello; three Sons, John (Natalie) Headdy of Cincinnati, OH, Joe (Angelique) Headdy of Crown Point, James (Jodi) Headdy of Cincinnati, OH; Sister, Melberta Clerget of Chalmers; Brother, William Dale (Jody) Headdy of Monticello; Sister-in-law, Millie Headdy of Sarasota, FL; Grandsons, Zach, Blake. Brandon, Jonathan, Zachary; Granddaughters, Molly, Alexandra, Carrington, Savannah. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Hintz and two brothers, Charles Dean and Robert Don Headdy. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm, Friday, May 14, 2010 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 11:30 am with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemtery, rural Monticello, with full military rites. Memorial Donations may be made to the Monticello Christian Church. Envelopes will be avaiable at the funeral home.
