Herbert "Herb" Parrish, 79, of Monticello, passed away at 11:15 pm, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.He was born on December 19, 1936 in White County to the late Lamar "Swifty" and Thelma "Lucille" (Scales) Parrish. On June 6, 1962 he married Linda Pugh at the Monticello United Methodist Church and she survives.Herb was a member of the graduating class of 1955 from Monticello High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a farmer for 48 years. Herb was a school bus driver for 36 years for Twin Lakes School Corporation from which he retired. He also drove a tanker truck for 20 years, and worked for RCA for two years. Herb was still driving for Hubbard GM Center prior to his most recent health decline. He attended Reynolds United Methodist Church. He was a member of The Independent Order of Fellows where he served as Past Noble Grand, presently served as the Chaplin, and also served as cemetery trustee. Everyone who knew Herb would agree he loved to talk! Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. He is also survived by children, Kimberly (Patrick) Shafer of Monticello and Jay Dee (Kimberly) Parrish of Tipton; siblings, Patricia (Dave) Fisher-Surber of Reynolds, Kay Ligenfelter of The Villages, FL, Steve (Bonnie) Parrish of Monticello, Dave (Tami) Parrish of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Ponto, Kassie Parrish, Taylor (Megan) Shafer, Brent Parrish, Chase Parrish, Cody (Samantha) Parrish, Bryton Parrish; six great grandchildren, Audree Lucille, Paisley Jean, Easton, Ari, Kase, Renly, and one on the way.He was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Wayne Fisher and Aldie Lingenfelter; and a great granddaughter, Kali. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, October 17, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. An Odd Fellow service will be conducted at 7 pm at the funeral home.Funeral services celebrating Herb's life will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Nikki Rice of the Reynolds United Methodist Church officiating.Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help offset expenses.
