Helen L. Vandervort, 78, of Lafayette, passed away at 9:35 am, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette. She was born on September 19, 1935 in Monon to the late Lester K. and Vivian (Eldridge) Denton. On August 3, 1952, she married John E. Terria. On December 12, 1973, she married Harold E. Vandervort and he preceded her in death February 10, 1990. She was a graduate of Monon High School and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the old White County Memorial Hospital. She also worked for Indiana Ribbon in Wolcott. Helen was a member of the Monticello Christian Church. She was a homebody and loved to crochet. Surviving are her children, Rita (Ken) Ford of Fort Myers, FL, Diana (David) Mann of West Lafayette, Debra Bushong of Lafayette, and Doug Terria (companion, Ruth Rodehan) of Monon; step-children, Dennis Vandervort, Cindy Sue Gerard, Julie Ann Neeley, James "JR" Vandervort, and David Vandervort; brothers, Robert (Carol) Denton of Elkhart, and Harry (Irene) Denton of Monon; sister, Mary Sue Williams of Florida; nine grandchildren, Amanda Mann, Josh Mann, Eric Mann, Justin Terria, Jason Ford, Heather Cassell, Jasmine Ford, Chris Bushong, Tiffany Bushong; and six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan, Kelsey, Makenna, Jacoby, and Brody. She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Cecilia Kay Gerlach, and sisters, Barbara Boyd and Joyce Gallier. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the time of funeral services at 5:00 pm Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Private burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello.
