Harold L. Erdmann, 72, of Monticello died, at 4:12 pm, February 8, 2011, at his residence. He was born December 30, 1938 at Logansport to the late John Henry and Augusta (Blumhardt) Erdmann. On Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960 in the Metea Baptist Church, he married Ruth Wagoner and she survives. Harold was a 1957 graduate of Metea High School. In 1961 he graduated from Purdue University, receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Agriculture, and he remained a lifelong Boilermaker supporter and fan. After graduating from college he worked a year as a hog grader with Marhofer Packing Company. He then worked a couple of years buying hogs for Producers Livestock in Logansport. From 1964 to the fall of 1969, he held a farm management position with Halderman of Wabash, and at the same time, held a Farm Real Estate License and sold farm real estate. While living in Hartford City he was a member of the Kiwanis serving as secretary and president elect of the club. In the fall of 1969, he took a position with Monsanto in Monticello in the agriculture chemical department selling herbicides. He moved his family to Monticello in 1970 continuing his career with Monsanto until his retirement in 1997. Harold owned the Monticello Montgomery Ward store from 1980 to 1985. He served as the Jefferson Twp (Carroll Co) Trustee 2001- present. Harold was a charter and current member of New Hope Lutheran Church where he served in many positions both at the local congregation as well as the IN/KY synod council. He enjoyed fishing, water skiing, tinkering around the home, perfecting his BBQ ribs, and sharing his jokes, good and bad. But most precious to him of all of his retirement activities, were his motor home travels and spending time with family. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by four children Cindy Ringer (husband, Wayne) of Wolcott, Cathy Raderstorf (husband, Rick) of Monticello, Ken Erdmann (wife, Marjorie) of Tulsa, OK, Kevin Erdmann (wife, Jennifer) of Gilbert, AZ;. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Brad (Jamie), Bridget and Arron Ringer, Megan and Lydia Raderstorf, Mary and Henry Erdmann, and Adam, Keegan and Paige Erdmann, along with a great grandchild, Olivia Ringer; and a brother- in-law John (Bonnie) Slusarski. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arvilla Slusarski. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm, Friday, February 11, 2011, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services Saturday, at New Hope Lutheran Church. Funeral services celebrating Harolds life will be will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, at New Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello In lieu of flowers, and in honor Harolds wishes, memorial contributions may be given to New Hope Lutheran Church or to: IU Simon Cancer Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
