Harold D. Brooks, 91 passed away after a brief illness on July 30, 2018, exactly three months after the death of his beloved wife, Jo Brooks of nearly 71 years. He was a lifelong resident of White County. He graduated from Idaville High School in 1944 and joined the United States Marines in September 1944 and was stationed in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. He worked for Best Bilt Lumber in Lafayette and Dye Lumber Company in Royal Center and Wolcott for many years, enjoying everyday of his working career. He was past president of the White County Food Pantry and past president of the White County Historical Society. He was born to William and Gladys McCloud Brooks on September 23, 1926. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Morrison, two brothers, John and Robert Brooks, and two sisters, Virginia Godlove and Lora Adams. He is survived by two children, Cathy Morrison of Winston-Salem, NC and Mark Brooks of Ocala, FL, three grandchildren, Eric Morrison (Tammy) of Clemmons, NC, Julie Hoover (Adam) of Lewisville, NC, and Christi Keene (Matt) of Chicago, three great granddaughters, Caroline, Amelia, and Faith Hoover of Lewisville, NC, two sisters, Esther Baer (Bill) of Buffalo, Jean Butt of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews. He was a long time active member of Monticello Christian Church where he had many treasured friends.Special thanks to Mike and Patty Godlove who have lovingly helped him since the passing of Jo, and to Via Quest Hospice Services who provided compassionate, tender care for his last days. Per his request, there will be no service. Harold believed that God watched over and cared for him his entire life, and he did not wish to be honored for any of his accomplishments. He asked simply that you gather with those you love and enjoy the time with one another. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Harold Brooks to Volunteers Helping Seniors (VHS), a part of the Twin Lakes Food Pantry.
