Gregory Lee Rubeck, 54, of Phoenix, AZ formerly of Monticello, passed away unexpectedly at 1:54am on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, AZ. He was born March 16, 1959 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Max and Shirley (Lynch) Rubeck. In 1980, he married the former Marlene Cooper, and they divorced in 1989. She preceded him in death. In 1989, he married Susette Brewster. They were married until 2012. She survives. He was a 1977 graduate of Twin Lakes High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1977 to 1978 and was stationed in Germany. He was the owner of Rubeck's Rubbish Inc. from 1979 to 1996 and Mr. R's Light Hauling from 1996 to 2008. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 14 years. He also worked for Indiana Ribbon, Inc. in Wolcott, IN and was currently employed at Lowes, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ. He earned his Eagle Scout and God and Country awards in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Hickory Grove Church and did mission work in Haiti. He was a fine craftsman and was proud of the home he built for his family. He was a passionate listener of music, enjoyed the outdoors, camping, riding his motorcycle, NASCAR, motor-sports racing, traveling, his dog, Daisy Mae, and above all, cherished and enjoyed his family. Survivors include his children, Travis Rubeck (fianc, Jennifer Todd) of Monticello, Sarah (husband,Eric) Brehm of Kokomo, Shane (wife, Laura) Rubeck of Phoenix, AZ, Meghan (husband, Jon) Andol of Wintersville, OH, and Drake Rubeck of Oakwood, IL; grandsons, Roman Brehm and Connor Andol; sisters, Vicki (husband, Mike) Sherwood of Lafayette, IN, and Kathy (husband Jerry) Burleson of Morrow, OH; nephews, Ben Sherwood, Patrick Burleson, and Andrew Burleson; and nieces, Mary Books, Katie Burleson, and Emily Burleson. He is also survived by a special friend, Betsy Horton Musson, of Cave Creek, AZ. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Hickory Grove Church with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. The church is located at 9714 North 700 West, Delphi, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 154 or Hickory Grove Church Haiti Mission Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
