Glenda “Dar” Darnell Townsley, 72, passed away peacefully at home, resting in bed on Mar. 14th, 2025. She made sure before she left this earthly existence to get out a couple sarcastic remarks and called some people her nickname for them that we will leave out of print.
This little spitfire was born on Oct. 28th, 1952 to Howard and Nellie Wilkerson, in Island KY. After meeting the love of her life at a roller rink they decided to get married on Christmas Day 1967. After raising her son, and after he was older, she become a CNA for a Crown Point Indiana nursing home. Later in life, Louis and Glenda chose to move to Monon, Indiana, and she found that she could use the knowledge gained from taking care of a child and the residents at the nursing home to be helpful to others in another profession. This is when she became a pretty well-known fixture at Jimmy O’s where she would serve you breakfast with a smile and witty sarcasm, but you were sure she cared about you when you left.
She is survived by her husband, Louis R. Townsley Sr.; son, Louis Townsley Jr. (Joeilynn); four granddaughters, Samantha Townsley, Aubrey Hardesty (Jake), Sara Townsley and Jamie Flynn; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Isla; brother, Ronnie Wilkerson (Mary); sister Debra Jenkins; many nieces and nephews that she truly adored and a couple of dozen kids that she unofficially adopted along the way.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Wilkerson and Ray Wilkerson; and three sisters, Etta Mae Hodgin, Shelia Free and Anna Lou Strole.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 23, 2025 from noon until the time of services at 2:00 pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, 202 S. Illinois St. Monticello, IN 47960.
