Dr Gerald Norman Quinn, 95 passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at home surrounded by family.  He was born August 28, 1928 in Delphi, Indiana to Troy Quinn and Georgia Loy Quinn. Gerald graduated from Delphi High School and then Butler University Jordan College of the Arts majoring in music.  After graduating from Butler he attended IU in Bloomington where he met Helen Sparks, the love of his life.  Gerald received a Masters Degree from Indiana University with Helen’s help.  Gerald and Helen were married for 45 years, she preceded him in death. Gerald worked as a band director and guidance counselor before going back to college and getting a Doctors Degree from Ball State University in psychology. Then, Gerald worked for many years as a school Psychologist.  Upon his retirement he co-owned radio stations in Indiana WMRS-Monticello, WBQR-Attica, and WKLU-Brownsburg. He hosted a big band show on WMRS as Johnny Irish.

Gerald loved music.  He was an avid piano player and encouraged everyone to learn to play.  Although, he could hear a wrong note played from any room in the house. He would have jam sessions in the music room during family get-togethers.  In his free time, he loved traveling with his family all over the world.  He really enjoyed visiting relatives at their homes.  There are many photo albums documenting the journey of their life.

Gerald had many hobbies.  He followed the stock market very closely every day.  He enjoyed playing Bridge and Hearts with his card groups.  He also had a sweet tooth.  He had a secret stash of candy, and enjoyed cookies, ice cream, and fudge. Gerald was also known for testing his grandchildren’s IQs, his joke books, and his letters which always contained a word of advice like “have some fun everyday” or “be happy”.

He will be dearly missed by his 4 children, Dr James (Millie) Quinn, Bruce (Mitzi) Quinn, Laura (Kevin) Page, & Daniel (Beth) Quinn, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and partner Evelyn.  Gerald will be remembered as the Leader of the Band.
