Gerald H. "Gerry" Mathew, 84, of Monticello, passed away at 6:47 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at I U Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.He was born on September 9, 1931 on the family farm in Wolcott to late Herman and Ora (Marquis) Mathew.On October 21, 1950 he married Marilyn Hilton in Reynolds at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives.He was a 1949 graduate of Wolcott High School and a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He farmed for 44 years. Following his retirement he worked as a trouble shooter for Wabash National for 10 years. He loved to fish and play golf. He was also an avid Indiana sports fan and liked the Colts, Bears, I.U. Purdue, Pacers and Notre Dame.In addition to his wife, Marilyn he is survived by his children, Trina Mathew of Oklahoma, Teresa (Ron) Onken of South Bend, Taina (Tim) Maffett of Lafayette, Scott (Amy) Mathew of Monon, and Tanice (Kyle) Gustafson of Lafayette; siblings, Ernie Mathew of FL and Rosemary (Bob) McCalister of IL; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.He was also preceded in death by a son Gerald Mathew, Jr.; and siblings Kenny, Charles, Donna Mae, and Richard Mathew.Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4pm until 8pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.The Rosary will be prayed Friday, Sept 2, 2016 at 10am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am also at the church with Father David Rasner celebrating.Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monticello.
