Emily Sue (Wilson) Sweet


Emily Sue (Wilson) Sweet, age 69 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away Monday June 17, 2024 at Overton Health and Rehabilitation Center from neuroendocrine cancer. 

Born October 2, 1954 in Logansport, Indiana to Hubert and Maurine (Beeman) Wilson, she grew up on the family farm in Northeast Monticello. She graduated from Twin Lakes High School with the class of 1972 and received a 2 year Associate Degree in business from Indiana State University. 

On June 15, 1974, Emily married her classmate and high school boyfriend, Michael Bruce Sweet, at Pike Creek Brethern Church, Monticello. They were married almost 44 years until Bruce's death on May 24, 2018. During their marriage, they lived in Monticello, Logansport, and Martinsville, Indiana. They moved to Cookeville, Tennessee in 2011 to retire and be near to their daughter (Erin Michelle), son-in-law (Michael), and granddaughter (Ashlynn) McCollum. 

Emily worked at office jobs in her lifetime, but was primarily a stay-at-home wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, quilting, running, and taking her dogs for walks. She loved having pets through the years and is survived by two dogs (Bonnie and Dixie) and two cats (Toby and Ellie). 

She is survived by a daughter Erin, son-in-law Michael, and granddaughter Ashlynn McCollum; brother Chester Wilson. Nieces: Susan Sears (JD Braden) of Michigan; Dr. Nicole (Wilson) (Tommy) Hall of Florida; Brandy (Wilson) (Michael) Jurdzy of Michigan; Sierra Wilson of Indiana. Great Nieces: Katie (Funk) Hyden; Kennedy Hall; Harper and Drew Jurdzy. Great Nephew: Grant Hall.

In addition to her parents and husband, Emily was preceded in death by her sister, Mary (Wilson) Korpita, brother-in-law Frank Korpita; father and mother-in-law Joseph and Norma (Ephlin) Sweet; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Connie (Sweet) Sears; brother-in-law William Sweet; and great nephew Andrew Funk. 

There will be no public services. 

Emily and Bruce's remains are to be buried together in a private family setting in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monticello, Indiana at a later date.
