Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson, 89, of Idaville died at 6:18 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009 at her residence. She was born October 7, 1920 at Chalmers to the late Homer and Fanna (Townsley) Fisher. She married Ward "Bud" Johnson June 29, 1946 at Waterloo, Iowa. He survives. Betty 1938 graduate from Monticello High School in 1938, and was a 1941 graduate of Home Hospital School of Nursing. She was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. She served in the European Theatre and was stationed in England. She entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant in May of 1943 and promoted to a First Lieutenant. She was discharged in November of 1945. She was a nurse for the U.S. Army, White County Memorial Hospital, and for Twin Lakes School Corporation for many years. She was a member of the former Pious Chapel Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Most recently she attended Idaville Church of God. She was memorialized by the Women In Military Service For America Memorial. She was also a member of the White County Home Extension Club. She was a Lincoln Township 4H leader for many years. She liked reading and traveling. Her special enjoyments were attending annual army reunions of her Army station hospital unit, and her husbands tank destroyer units Other survivors include son, Jeff (Lynn) Johnson of Avon; 4 daughters, Julie (Bill) Partridge of Mooresville, Janet (Jack) Faker of Monticello, Jayne (Brian) Burton of Delphi, Jodi (Mark) Traub of Greenwood; brother, David Fisher of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister, Martha Galbraith of Washington D.C.; 7 grandchildren, Jorie Faker, John Faker, Jeff "J.T." Faker, Kevan "K.C." Johnson, Kerry Johnson, Andrew Burton, Eric Traub; and a great-granddaughter, Kloe` Johnson. She is preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Visitation will be from 1 pm until 3 pm, Sunday, November 1 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Private family funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Dave Callighan. Burial will be private Memorials may be given to White County Memorial Hospital Foundation to benefit the Oncology (Cancer) Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
