Elaine Reader

Elaine Aida (Bergez) "EB" Reader, 75, passed away unexpectedly Friday February 26, 2021 at 8:26 pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette after spending the afternoon with her daughter and granddaughter.
Elaine was born August 15, 1945 in Ludington, Michigan to the late John and Meredith (VanSickle) Bergez. She arrived with her twin sister Eloise. Elaine was married to Kelley Reader in 1966 in Scottville, Michigan. They later divorced.
She graduated from Mason County Eastern High School in 1964 and Hurley Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in 1966. She also became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. She worked many years in x-ray and ultrasound at Hurley Hospital Flint Michigan, White County Memorial Hospital Monticello Indiana, and St. Elizabeth Hospital Lafayette Indiana.
Making a fun midlife shift, in 1995 Elaine took a position with Northwest Airlines as a flight attendant. She loved traveling all over the country. She retired in 2014 from Mesaba Airlines after a wonderful career making so many good friends on her adventures.
Elaine cherished her family. Her grandkids were busy, and she was at as many softball and soccer games, prom photo shoots, Christmas programs, track meets, tennis lessons, grandparent days, and as many activities with her grandkids as possible.
She was a very good friend and had many of them to prove it.
She loved to cook, preferably for a crowd. She was especially known for her potato salad, from scratch gravy, the best homemade pickles, her lemon meringue pie and anything her kids or grandkids requested. She loved antiques and antiquing. She grew beautiful orchids and other houseplants and garden flowers. She loved being at the breakwater in Ludington Michigan or near any body of water. In her last years she loved sitting on the patio at the cottage on Lake Freeman watching the boats going by or enjoying an entertaining fireside gathering.
Her faith was very important to her. She attended Evangelical Covenant Church in Lafayette whenever she could. She was always at the Christmas Eve service with her family. One of her favorite activities of the year was going to the ECC Women's Retreat where she met some wonderful friends who walked out the last couple of years with her. She is enjoying her heavenly reward now.
Surviving are her children Kimberly (Tim) Han of Lafayette, IN and Travis (Cindy) Reader of Monticello, IN. Grandchildren: Kirstin (Brandon) Davey, Aslyn (Nick Green) Reader, Katie (Joe) Mills, Claire Han, Jack Han, and Josy Reader. Great grandchildren: Maverick Davey, Emerson Davey, Fletcher Davey, and Scout Green. Her sister Eloise (Tony) Sovis of Montrose, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Mike Bergez, John (Jay) Bergez, and Karen Bergez.
The family will receive visitors from 11am until 1pm (EDT), on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Masks and social distance requested by the family.
