Edward C. Ollman (1919-2017)Monticello, IN-Edward Carl Ollman, age 97 of Monticello, Indiana, died peacefully on Friday, August 4 at 12:40 p.m. at his home with his wife of 78 years, Jean, by his side.Born September 11, 1919 in rural Kingston, Illinois, Edward was the son of Edward Carl Ollmann Sr. and Harriet (Miller) Ollmann.On August 8, 1939, Edward married his soulmate, Jean Montgomery. They treasured and honored each other every day of their married life. Edward and Jean were northern Illinois dairy farmers. They lived, owned, and operated the Ollmann homestead farm, the home where Edwards grandparents raised their ten children.For 21 years, Edward worked for the Illinois Tollway Authority. He was a member of the Genoa (Illinois) Trinity Lutheran Church where he served for many years as a church board member, an elder, and a Sunday school teacher. Edward was a member of the Genoa Kingston School Board for 12 years. He was the first president of Kingston Community Club of Kingston Grade School. He was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau in DeKalb County.In 2001, Edward and Jean moved to Monticello, Indiana. Edward was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Delphi, Indiana where he encouraged his church family and the community through a card writing ministry. Even after his sight became impaired, he continued this ministry up until a few weeks before he left this earth.Edward was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and delighted in their World Series Championship in 2016.Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Jean, his daughters Nancy (Peter) Nutley and Janet (Joe) Dold, and his son-in law, Rex Freter. Daughter, Donna Freter, passed away on July 2, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.His grandchildren include: Christopher (Kelly) Dold, Joseph (Sandy) Dold, Jennifer (Grant) MacLennan, Cindy Nutley, Rebecca (Jeff) Milligan, Stephen (Angela) Dold, Kim (David) Bruns, Kelly Freter, Sarah (Marcus) Dold-Welsh, and Zachary Dold.Edward and Jean have 22 great grandchildren.Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Donna Jean Freter, his son-in-law Peter H. Nutley, his granddaughter, Dawn Marie Freter, his great grandson, Lucas Edward Alan Welsh, and his brother and best friend, Willard (Babe) Ollmann.The family would like to thank Pastor John Westfall, his wife, Barb, and the St. Matthews Lutheran Church family for their constant prayers and support. We would like to thank Valerie Little, RN of the IU Health Hospice team for her exceptional care and compassion. We would also like to thank the Monticello Fire Department Paramedics. A Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Washington Street, Delphi, IN. A Memorial Visitation is scheduled on Friday, August 11 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, 202 S. Illinois Street, Monticello.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Siteman Cancer Center, 4921 Parkview Place, St. Louis, MO 63110, in Memory of Edward Ollman and to honor Donna Jean Freter, or to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1301 S.
