Edith G, Flynn, 94, of Monticello, went to be with the Lord at 11:05 pm, Monday, June 16, 2014. She passed at White Oak Health Campus where she resided for just a few weeks. She was born on July 8, 1919 at the family home in rural Brookston to the late Garrett and Laura (Brooks) Hurst. Her marriage was to Lowell "Barney" Flynn on March 20, 1940 in Brookston, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1990. She was a graduate of Brookston High School and worked primarily as a homemaker. She also provided childcare from her home. She moved to Monticello where she lived for the past fifty-five years. She was a lifelong member of Badger Grove Community Baptist Church and attended the Monticello Christian Church. Edith enjoyed crocheting, playing euchre, flower gardening and watching and feeding birds. She was a great cook and was known for her fried chicken and potato salad. She loved cooking for all the big family dinners. Above all, she cherished her family and time spent with them. Surviving are her daughters, Karen Finney of Huntley, IL, Norma (Don) Blount of Monticello, and Linda Lindsay of Monticello; a nephew she raised as her own, Jerry (Mary) Goggin of Tucson, AZ; sister, Bertha Brown of Monticello; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; four great- great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Hurst. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Brookston I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Christian Church Youth Building Fund or to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
