Dorothy L. Shields

Dorothy L. Shields, 83, of Monticello, died at 1:10 am, Friday, February 08, 2013 surrounded by her family at IU Health White memorial Hospital. She was born July 9, 1929 in Peru, Indiana to Floyd Behny and Lois (Judy) Behny Miller. Dorothy married Donald G. Shields on January 10, 1954 in Peru, Indiana. He preceded her in death May 1, 1984. Dorothy was employed as a kitchen manager at the American Legion in Monticello for seven years. She also worked as a cashier for Luchman Concessions at Indiana Beach for nine years until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed watching the Cubs, Bears Football, and especially, IU Basketball. Above all, she cherished time spent with her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Mary Powell of Warsaw, Indiana; three daughters, Sue Shields, Ellen (Steve) Bartlett, Linda Williams (companion Jeff Snowberger) all of Monticello; son, Don (Jenny) Shields also of Monticello; six grandchildren, Steve Bartlett, Jr., Carrie Stangle, Catrina Phillips, Jessica Davis, Melissa Neal, Amanda Bartlett; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Dakotah, Jackson, and Chelsie. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Mike Miller; sister, Jean Thompson; son-in-law, Charlie Williams; and grandson, Jesse Williams. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm, Monday, February 11at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Ryan Bailey of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Idaville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry.
