Donald Lee Griesey, 71, of Monticello, died at 3:29 pm, Monday, March 21, 2011, at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. He was born October 17, 1939 to the late Leo and Crystal Pauline (Maggart) Griesey at the historic family farm located along the Tippecanoe River near Buffalo. His marriage to Lynne Ann Van Meter was on May 18, 1962 in Monticello. She preceded him in death November 23, 2010. Mr. Griesey was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was a 1957 graduate of Monon High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Japan from 1958 to 1960. Mr. Griesey was a retired electrician from NISPCO. He also managed the Roof Garden Lounge at Indiana Beach for 30 years. Donald was a life long conservationist and outdoor enthusiast, contributing to the continuation of environmental stewardship throughout the region. He was a founding member of Sportsman Acting for the Environment (Safe Club), and the National Wild Turkey Federation's local Tioga and Wea chapters. He also won several Indiana state crow shoot championships throughout the 1960's. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper, influencing countless individuals of all ages to respect the ethics and values of sportsmanship. He is survived by a daughter, Dondi Flora of Monticello; two sons, Darin and Dennis Griesey both of Monticello; granddaughter, London Griesey; and a grandson, Cayse Seramur. In addition to his wife, Lynne Anne, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Dean Griesey. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm, Friday, March 25, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Saturday, March 26, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello.
