Dennis L. Blackman, 65, of Monticello, passed away at 3:00 am, Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at his residence.
He was born on August 21, 1953 in Logansport. On August 8, 2014 he married Constance "Connie" Cox in Delphi and she survives in Monticello.
Dennis worked as handyman. He liked NASCAR, professional basketball and baseball, fishing, and mowing grass. He loved his dogs and he especially loved his grandsons.
Dennis served in the Navy and "His ship provided direct support during the evacuation of more than 270 civilian refugees from the beleaguered Lebanese capital. The civilians (men, women and children from 25 nations, including the U.S. Canada and Britain) were ferried to the dock landing ship USS Spiegel Grove by landing craft and transported to Athens."
He is survived by four children, Isaac Blackman of Terre Haute, Sunshine Trueblood of Indianapolis, Elisa (Robert) Salts of Williamsport, Cecilia Cox of Logansport; two sisters, Renee (Jason) Burkett of Delphi, Angela (Jeff) Pepple of Monticello; and grandchildren, Logan and Corbin Salts.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Phyllis Marie (Spencer) and Dan Burkett; father, Don Blackman; and infant brother, Roger Blackman.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services celebrating Dennis' life at 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.
Private burial will be in Yeoman Cemetery.
