Delbert L. Mansfield, 96, of Camby, Indiana, formerly of Monticello, died at 10:45 am, Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Worthington House, Camby. He was born March 29, 1914 in White County Indiana, in the Round Grove family home to the late Jesse and Sadie (Reynolds) Mansfield. Mansfield was a graduate of Brookston High School, where he played basketball and wore the number 88 jersey. He was a farmer and worked for Hicks Gas in the winter until he retired from farming and then went to work full time for Hicks Gas. He had been the official time keeper for basketball games at Reynolds High School for 33 years. He was a member of the Eagles of Lafayette. He was also a member of the American Legion, and the Moose of Monticello. He loved hunting. He enjoyed gardening. He raised popcorn, strawberries, and various vegetables. Surviving are two sons, Delbert L.R. (Charlene) Mansfield of Ivins, Utah, David E. (Beth) Mansfield of Plainfield; stepson, Gary (Karen) Cook of Rochester; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Lonnie) Businger of Monticello; seven grandchildren; seven; great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, six step-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by two wives, Jane Broyles and the former Wanda (Criswell) Cook; son, Alan A. Mansfield; stepson, Wayne Cook; and a grandson. Visitation will be from Noon until 2 pm, Saturday, June 5, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will be at 2pm Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery rural, Monticello. Memorials may be given to the Hendricks County Community Foundation.
