Curtis Hughes, 85, of Francesville, passed away at 7:12 am, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at I U Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.He was born on May 9, 1932 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Jake and Ethel (Ousley) Hughes. On December 16, 1950 in he married Rachel Hughes in Hueysville, KY and she preceded him in death December 31, 2012.Curtis retired as commercial construction laborer from LIUNA - Local #41 from Hammond. Prior to moving his family to Indiana, he lived and worked in Michigan and worked in the local paper mills there. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.He enjoyed riding his motorcycle when he was young, Nascar, and touring around in his golf cart. He cherished time spent with his family, especially, his great and great-great grandchildren. He loved the little ones. Surviving are his daughters, Ann (Ronnie) Oliver of Rensselaer, Mary (Lee) Ferdinand of Reynolds, Rose (Mark) Pochon of Mt. Vernon; sister, Christine Vanderpool of TN; grandchildrens Rodney Oliver, Kim Chops, Mathew Pochon, Robbie Hughes, Dana Hughes; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son and infant son, Steve and Orville Curtis Hughes, brothers, Melvin and Chillie Hughes, sister, Sylvia Klutts; and grandson, Scott Ferdinand.Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm EST Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.Funeral services celebrating Curtis' life will be at 1:00 pm EST Monday at the funeral home with his grandson, Pastor Jim Chops officiating.Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery of Gillam Township in rural Rennselaer.Messages of condolence may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
