Clarence Vandevender, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 7:38 pm, Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Monticello Healthcare. He was born on August 13, 1928 in Carroll County. On September 10, 1950 he married Jane Timm at the Yeoman United Methodist Church. She survives in Monticello. Mr. Vandevender was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during Korea. Mr. Vandevender worked for RCA as a cabinet sprayer for 29 years. He also worked at True Flight Arrow for 10 years. He mowed grass and refinished furniture as a sideline income. Mr. Vandevender enjoyed mowing grass and visiting with people. He is survived by two sons, Alan C. (Patti) Vandevender of Ultimate Springs, FL, Daniel L. Vandevender of Monticello; one sister in law, Betty T. Greene of Shadeland; one brother in law, Bill (Dorothy) Timm of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Julie Hicks, Jamie (Cliff) Jones; one grandson, Bradley Vandevander; four great grandsons, Thomas Hicks, Cody Vandevender, Jacob Jones, Justin Jones; and great granddaughter, Jocelyn Jones. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Collins. Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Yeoman United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 10:30am, on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Yeoman United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Thompson and Rev. David Inskeep officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello with full military rites. Memorial contributions may be given to the Yeoman United Methodist Church or to the White County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and also at the church.
