Charles R. 'Chuck' Bossung

Charles R. "Chuck" Bossung, 79, of Lafayette, formerly of Chalmers, passed away at 6:10 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Lafayette surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born on July 6, 1936 in Lafayette to the late Rhinehart and Elizabeth (Souligne) Bossung. On June 29, 1971, he married the former Shirley Holladay in Chalmers. She survives and resides in Lafayette.
Chuck was a graduate of Chalmers High School and was a lifelong farmer. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He also worked as a postal carrier in Chalmers, Brookston, and Reynolds.
Charles served on the White County Emergency Management Board for several years and served on the White County, County Committee of the (ASCS) Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service now known as the Farm Service Agency for many years beginning in the 70's.
He was a member of the American Legion in Chalmers, 40/8, and Eagles in Lafayette.
He was a collector of antique tractors and also a collector of toy tractors.
He enjoyed snowmobiling but mostly cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He will always be remembered for his humor and ability to keep everyone smiling.
Also surviving are his children, Darrel (wife, Stephanie) Bossung of Lafayette, Tammy (husband, Jay) Settergren of Wilkinson; grandchildren, J.J. (wife, Kelly), Riley, Chase, and Della.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jo Bossung.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm (ET) until 8:00 pm, Friday, December 18, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
Funeral services celebrating Chuck's life will be 10:00 am, Saturday at the funeral home with Father Fintan Cummings of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds officiating.
Burial will follow in Chalmers Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Gold Star Mothers of Lafayette with envelopes available at the funeral home.
