Carl Hites

Carl E. Hites, 87, passed away at 4:30 am, Thursday, December 11, 2014 at his residence in Buffalo. He was born on June 4, 1927 in Warren, OH to the late Lewis and Hazel (Patchin) Hites. On January 21, 1950, he married Lou Ann Cooper in Middlefield, Ohio and she survives. Carl had been a very active member of the VFW and was proud of his service in the military. He was a 1st Gunner on the 101 Howitzer in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during WWII. He was a lover of Country and Blue Grass music and enjoyed attending blue grass festivals. He enjoyed listening to his family play music and cherished spending time with them. He owned and operated Hites Hardwood, a saw mill until his retirement at the age of 82. He attended the Buffalo Christian Church. Surviving with his wife Lou Ann, are his children, Dr. Carl E. "Shaker"(Lisa) Hites, Jr of Monon, Lewis (Cheryl) Hites of Buffalo, Marty (Nancy) Hites of Lafayette moved recently from Buffalo, and Mindy (Paul) Grosso of Prospect Heights, IL; eight grandchildren, MG (Kim) Hites, Katy (Chuck) Hites, Caroline Hites Comer, Sarah (Taylor) Watts, Lewis (Sarah) Hites IV, Emily (Dan) Scholl, Heidi (Travis) Van Meter, Mary (Jusitn) Northrup; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nora Hites. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of services at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Tom Haynie of the Buffalo Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Buffalo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Buffalo EMT with envelopes available at the funeral home.
