Beverly A. McMurray, 67, of Monticello died at 2:11 pm on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born May 27, 1945 in Lafayette to the late Francis "Red" and Marie (Vogel) Burns. Her marriage was to Ron McMurray on September 16, 1967 in Monticello and he survives in Monticello. She was a 1963 graduate of Monticello High School and received her nursing degree from Purdue University in 1967. Beverly was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Sodality, St. Monica's circle. She was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Patrick Church in Cumberland, Maryland. She spent her career as an Orthopedic Nurse at Home Hospital for 25 years and as a Nurse Manager for 15 years at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland Maryland. After retirement, she served as a nurse at Whispering Pines and also at White Oak Health Campus both of Monticello. She was a former library board member at the Monticello Union Township Public Library, a member of Friends of the Library, and the Library Book club. She served on the White County Community Foundation Governing Council and on the Women Giving Together Fund Committee. She was a member of Tri-Kappa and the Monticello garden club. Bev volunteered with many community service organizations and dedicated her life to the service of others. She enjoyed bike riding and was a master gardener. She was a passionate Democrat. Above all, she cherished time spent with her entire family. She is also survived by 3 daughters, Shannon (Dean) Gardiner of Monticello, Heather "Casey"(Joseph) McCurdy of Orland Park, IL, Heidi (Mark) Barnhizer of Elkhart; 2 brothers, Michael (Vicki) Burns of West Palm Beach, FL, Mark (Nancy) Burns of Monticello; 2 sisters, Deb (Jay) Hughes of Indianapolis, Liz (Phil) Brummett of Waterloo; Sister in law, Toni (Roy) Jessee of West Lafayette; 8 grandchildren, Justin (April) Gardiner, Sean Patrick Gardiner, McHale Gardiner, Mallory Gardiner, Meghan McCurdy, Kate McCurdy, Braxton Barnhizer, Brooks Barnhizer; and 2 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Steven Burns. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm, Thursday, December 13 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30pm on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Friday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. The Church is located at 543 S. Main St., Monticello, Indiana. Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry or the White County Community Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
