Betty J. Jones

Betty Joan Jones, 93, of Monticello passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at I U Health White Memorial Hospital.

She was born on October 17, 1931 at the family farm in Carroll County near Camden to the late Truman and Mable (Horn) McCarty. On November 19, 1949 she married John N. Jones in North Judson. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1998.

She was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School and went on to work as a hostess and waitress at Pirates Roost. She then worked as a rural postal carrier for Monticello from which she retired. 

She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, a Home Economics Club, and was a former member of Psi Iote Xi Sorority in Delphi. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile for many years. Betty enjoyed flowers, travel, nature and birds. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren and her friends.

Surviving are her children, Vicki (Gary) Mahoney of Monticello, Barry (Kathryn) Jones of Warsaw, Brenda (Mike) Cobb of Monticello, Brad (Georgette) Jones of Monticello, and Rachelle "Shelly" (Jim) Bird of Yeoman; sister, Kay (Mark) Smith of Brookston; sister-in-law, Nomie McCarty of Delphi; grandchildren, Genie (Don) Elliott, Makenzie (Will) Isaacs, Kelly (Justin) Wilson, Patrick (Beth) Mahoney, Jason (Danielle) Jones, Jerrad (Erin) Jones, Justin (Rachelle) Jones, Shalon (Lee) Anderson, Clif (Clarissa) Cobb, Tristan Jones, Lindsey (Brock) Haselby, Carly (Josh) Hepler, Phillip "Rusty" (Rachelle) Bird, and Jamie (Tim) Duncan; thirty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, John, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth McCarty; grandson, Adam Krintz; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services celebrating Betty's life will follow at 2:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Russ Alley of the Yeoman United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Yeoman Cemetery.
