Betty Jo Baxter, 81, of Monticello died at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 12, 2012 at her residence. She was born June 16, 1931 in Gold Smith, Indiana to the late Jake and Mildred Catherine (Carter) Phifer. Her marriage was to Wayne E. Baxter on November 1, 1952, in Monon, and he survives. She attended Delphi Wesleyan Church. She was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School located south of Kokomo. She had worked at Bryans Manufacturing, RCA, and also in housekeeping at White County Memorial Hospital. She also worked at the Forum Restaurant formerly of Monticello. She had been active with the White County Council on Aging. She was a member of Kitchen Kuties Homemakers Extension Club until they disbanded and then she became a member of Liberty Homemakers Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and all kinds of crafts. She liked going to craft shows and getting new ideas. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her husband and daughter especially liked her homemade noodles with beef or chicken and also her coffee cake. She is also survived by a daughter, Catherine Ellen (Charles) Fife of Delphi; sister, Donna Jean Whistler of Gold Smith, Indiana; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Baxter; 3 sisters; and a great-grandson. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of services at 1 pm, Tuesday, July 17, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Rev. Dan Fisher of Delphi Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Elizabeth Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
