Arlene K. Musser, Phd, JD, 63, of East Lyme, CT passed away at her condominium in Somerville, MA.She was born on September 10, 1952 in Lafayette to the late Lawrence E. and Mabel (Huge) Musser. Arlene was a 1970 graduate of Benton Central High School. She received her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Purdue University in 1974. She earned her master's and first doctorate degrees in inorganic chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1979. Arlene then did post-doctorate work at Purdue. After earning her first doctorate degree, she went to work for 3M for 17 years in Minneapolis St. Paul and during her career there, she became involved with patent law and earned her Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1998. She then went to work as a patent attorney for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Pfizer, and then for Novartis where she worked until the time of her death.She was a member of the Indiana, Massachusetts, and Connecticut Bar Associations. Arlene was given the distinguished science alumni award from Purdue University in 2003. She was a collector of pie birds and teddy bears and enjoyed attending pie bird conventions every year until she became ill.Surviving are sisters-in-law, Joanne Musser (companion, Richard Carter) of Monticello, Carol Musser of Ellettsville; nieces, Debra Musser of West Lafayette, Monica (Doug) Short of West Lafayette, Erin (Bobby) Knelly of Ellettsville; nephews, Michael Musser of Grand Prairie, TX, Patrick Musser of Monticello; three great-nieces; and three great-nephews.She was also preceded in death by brothers, Ralph E. and Gary L. Musser.Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 2pm until the time of services at 4pm celebrating Arlene's life at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Father Robert Klemme officiating.Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Dr. Caroline Krasner, Gynelogical Oncology Research Fund, 55 Fruit Street, unit Yawkey 9E, Boston, MA. 02114 with envelopes available at the funeral home.Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may extended at http://www.springerfuneralhome.com/
