Amos Carter, Jr., 88, of Monticello, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 2:25 a.m., at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. He was born October 26, 1919 in Union Township in White County, IN. He was th son of the late Amos A. Carter and the late Lilly Myrtle "Dolly"(Bowsher)Carter. His Marriage was to Bonnie Barnes on July 18, 1998 at the Burnettsville First Baptist Church. Bonnies survives in Monticello. Mr. Carter was a 1937 graduate of Monticello High School. Mr. Carter was a Master Sgt. Airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He owned and operated Carter Septic for 33 years in Monticello. Carter grew up in the Pike Creek Church of the Brethern and was a member for over 70 years. He later joined the First Baptist Church in Burnettsville, IN. He was a VFW member and also a member of the American Legion. Mr. Carter was Union Township Trustee for 16 years. He loved children. He was a lover of music and enjoyed dancing and singing. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Survivors include: 2 Daughters, Carmen (Dave) Simmons of Muncie, IN, Carol Brookshire of Indianapolis, IN Son, Charles A. (Colleen) Carter of Ft. Wayne, IN 2 Step sons, Myron Barnes of Monticello, IN, John Barnes of Burnettsville, IN 3 Step daughters, Judy Holmes of Logansport, IN Carolyn (Dave) Criswell of Idavillle, IN, Sandra Barnes of Logansport, IN Brother, Robert D. (Jan) Carter of Monticello, IN Step Daughter-in-law: Cheryl Barnes of Logansport, IN 3 Grandsons, Brett (Sandy) Simmons of Evansville, IN, Aaron Carter of Monticello, IN, Adam Carter, TN 2 Granddaughters, Angela (Ron) Fisher of Lafayette, IN, Jennifer (Jerry Cunningham) Simmons of Indianapolis, IN 8 Step Grandsons, Scott Barnes of Monticello, IN, Bruce (Lisa) Barnes of Noblesville, IN, Darin (Jill) Barnes of Monticello, IN, Bobby Hood of Walton, IN, Kenneth Holmes of Ft. Wayne, IN, Jeff Criswell of Idaville, IN, Michael Criswell of Lafayette, IN, Justin Weaver of Logansport, IN 4 Step Granddaughters, Heather (Michael) Leslie of Noblesville, IN, Katrina (Brian) Tragesser of Noblesville, IN, Nancy (Boyd) Parker of Pennington, NJ, Tina (Kenneth) Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN; 9 great-grandchildren; and 20 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents; and sister, Phyllis Holub. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Williams of the Burnettsville First Bapstist Church will officiate services. Burial will be in the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello with full military rites Memorials may be made to the Burnettsville First Baptist Church Building Fund.
