Alonzo "Lon" C. Brady, 88 of Monticello passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Residence. He was born April 15, 1924 in South Bend to the late Wilbur and Gladys (Curtis) Brady. He married Betty (Hunter) on Apil 12, 1947 in Franklin and she survives. Lon graduated from Monticello H.S. in 1942 and joined the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was wounded in Okinawa and member of the Disabled Veterans of Logansport. Lon retired from Gen Corp as plant manager of Logansport and Peru Plants in 1987 after 35 years of service. Lon was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Elks, Eagles, Moose, American Legion and Kiwanis all of Logansport. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and VFW both of Monticello. While in Logansport, he served on the Cass County United Way Board of Directors and was a member of the Logansport Chamber of Commerce. He managed a Babe Ruth baseball team for 13 years and had been a Boy Scout leader. He was a charter member of SFLECC Board of Directors in Monticello. He is survived by 2 sons, Daniel Brady of Kalkaska, MI, Scott (Mary) Brady of Logansport; 2 daughters, Sherri Shafer of Walton, Judy (Rick) Sweet of Monticello; 8 grandchildren, Michelle (William) Contestable, Michael (Andrea) Brady, Kim (Troy) Robertson, Jesse Shafer, Heather Shafer, Julie (Joel) Pepple, Wendi (Terryn) Elliott, Kristen Sweet He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dee Ames, and grandson Jason Brady. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of services at 1 pm, Saturday, January 19 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Chaplin Scott Ellison of Guardian Angel Hospice and Rev. Doug Thompson of the Yeoman United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Yeoman Cemetery with military rites rendered.
