Allen D. Hitz

Allen D. Hitz, 78, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on August 29, 1945 in Valparaiso to the late Ben and Lena (Marty) Hitz. On June 24, 1996, he married Sharon "Sue" Kingsley in Sevierville, TN. She survives. 

Allen was a graduate of Medaryville High School and then went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Allen worked in auto manufacturing for SIA in Lafayette until his retirement. After retirement, he worked at Kroger in the meat department.

Allen enjoyed golfing, boating, hunting, vegetable gardening, grilling and smoking meats, and bowled on the AmVets bowling team for many years. He was a member to the American Legion and AmVets. He was the Commander for two years at the VFW. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Sue of Monticello he is survived by his sons, Robert Hitz of Lafayette, David (Janyll) Hitz of Houston, TX, and Larry (Tina) Hitz of Monticello; siblings, Carol Ailes, Nila Curry, Roger (RuAnn) Hitz; six grandchildren, Meaghan, Sam, Brian, Jake, Dillon (Crystal) and Josh Hitz; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Hitz.He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Margean.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the memorial services celebrating Allen's life at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Steven Buhr will officiate services.

Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home to help Sue offset expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
