Alden J. Schroeder, 92, of Idaville, passed away at 7:05 am, Friday, March 24, 2023 at I U Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.


He was born on February 22, 1931 in Monticello to the late Henry H. and Martha M. (Jennings) Schroeder. His marriage was to Lena Sue Lang on October 18, 1959 at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds. She preceded him in death June 1, 2012.


He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds. He attended Idaville School where he played basketball and graduated as a "Green Streak" in 1950. He served in the National Guard from February, 1950 - September, 1959. He had worked at Bryant Manufacturing, Dye Lumber Company, Alloy Rods/Chematron, and Buck Stevenson Construction, but was a life long farmer.


He enjoyed farming, road farming, watching IU basketball, and reading his farm newspapers. He and Sue enjoyed traveling with friends. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Alden could always be heard saying "Keep Smiling" as he gave you the thumbs up.


He is survived by four children, Galen A. Schroeder of Idaville, Wayne A. (Diane) Schroeder of Idaville, Lisa S. (John) Gooding of Monticello, Sara A. (Jerry) Lubbehusen of Elnora; eight grandchildren, Alexie (Riley) Garner, Jerika Schroeder (fiancé, Ethan Blount), Jillian Schroeder, Jorja Schroeder, Allison (Josh) Potts, Adam (Lauren) Gooding, Jason Lubbehusen, Craig Lubbehusen; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Potts, and Owen Potts.


Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Andrew Keller of St. James Lutheran Church officiating.


Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be given to St. James Lutheran Church or White County 4-H Goat Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
