Albert L. Watkins

Albert Larue Watkins, 92, of Lafayette, formerly of Monticello, died at 6:58 am, Friday, March 19, 2010 at St. Anthony Healthcare in Lafayette. He was born August 3, 1917 in Monticello, to the late Clarence Elza and Clevo (Williams) Watkins. His marriage was to Marjorie Madalen Kestle on July 4, 1941 in Monticello. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2004. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1935. He was also a 1936 graduate of Indiana Business College in Logansport. Mr. Watkins enlisted as a Private in the United States Air Force in 1941. He was released from active service as Major in April 1946. He was discharged honorably from Inactive Air Force Reserve in October of 1955. Mr. Watkins was licensed in Indiana for over 30 years as a real estate broker and general insurance agent. Mr. Watkins retired in 1983 after 16 years of service as Postal Clerk at the Downtown Lafayette Post Office. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Louise Watkins of Frankfort. He is preceded in death by a brother, Donald Watkins; and a sister, Icel Jeanne Krieg. Visitation will be from 1pm to 2pm Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at funeral home with Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F.
